Three lorries have felt the brunt end of Fenland’s heavy winds today (January 18) after storm Fionn hit the county overnight.

It started on the A47 from Wisbech to Guyhirn when the first lorry overturned causing the road to close.

Highways England said: The A47 is closed westbound between A1101 Wisbech and A141 Guyhirn due to an overturned lorry.

“In addition there is a severe spillage and the road is expected to remain closed for several hours, Cambridgeshire Police are on scene, please plan ahead.”

The next was on the A605 in Ring’s End where another lorry overturned, closing the road and causing queuing traffic in both directions at the A141 March Road junction.

A Cambs Fire spokesman said: “On Thursday (18) at 6.08am, one crew from March attended a road traffic collision involving a heavy goods vehicle on the A141 near Rings End, Guyhirn.

“Heavy wind had caused the lorry to overturn. Firefighters released the driver from the vehicle and made the area safe. The driver was uninjured.

“The crew returned to their station by 6.45am.”

The final lorry overturned on the B1166, leaving the driver with minor injuries and closing Parson Drove between High Side and Elbow Lane to allow for recovery.

A police spokesman said: “We were called at 9.31am this morning (January 18) with reports of a lorry in a ditch in Church End, Main Road, Parson Drove, Wisbech.

“The lorry went into a marshy area at the side of the road and blew over – the lorry was carrying frozen peas.”
