THREE parents have been prosecuted for failing to ensure their children attend Thomas Clarkson Academy in Wisbech.

One parent admitted two offences, while two others who did not attend the hearing at King’s Lynn Magistrates’ Court were found guilty in their absence.

The parent who pleaded guilty was given a 12-month conditional discharge for each offence, while the other two were fined £200 each with £150 costs and a £15 victim surcharge.

David Gray, Vice Principal at the Thomas Clarkson Academy, said: “The court has taken the view that parents need to do more to make sure their children go to school and I welcome that decision.

“A good education should open up a bright and exciting future for our young people.

“Parents need to work together with schools to ensure that children attend regularly and make the most of the opportunities provided for them.”
