THERE were sighs of relief when a Chatteris team realised it had pipped its Ely counterparts by just one point to win the Isle of Ely Women's Institute drama festival in 1966.
Five plays were performed before a panel of judges. Those taking part were Upwell, Christchurch, March St Mary's, Chatteris and Ely.
Rita Goodger was producer of the winning play Sherri Dawson. Sherri Dawson (May Butcher) had committed suicide and Anne Alberry (Ann Allpress) had to write the appreciation, even though she hated the gossip writer.
Susan Doggett, assistant drama adviser for Norfolk, was adjudicator and cups were presented by County WI president Ms C Bedford.
