Soccer referee Darren Deadman from Chatteris is reported to have been suspended from officiating at top level matches.

He is one of two reported at the weekend to have been dropped by the Professional Game and Match Officials Ltd (LGMOL) – the professional body that picks referees.

Deadman has covered a wide variety of matches in his career as a referee including officiating at FA, Football League Cup, and has been the fourth official in some Premiership fixtures.

No explanation has been offered for his surprise removal from the list of referees put forward as being available for the new season.

According to the Daily Mirror who broke the story, Deadman will not work for the PGMOL again.

One of the most senior games in which Deadman was involved was the league two play off final at Old Trafford in 2011. Four yellow cards were issued during the match that was won by Stevenage.

In April he refereed a Cambridge game and in May he officiated at the league two play off between Luton and Blackpool – six yellow cards were issued.

A profile for the Football League on line website six years ago relayed his view of aspiring to be a top referee.

“You watch how the referee conducts himself out there, how he copes with all the different situations, and you do try to put yourself in his position and wonder if you could handle it. I’d like to think that I could,” he said.
