THE Royal Naval Association held a tot commiseration ceremony at March

Conservative Club on Sunday to remember the day - July 31, 1970 - when the Royal Navy brought an end to the daily rum ration.

The event kicked off with a short 'barrelhead' service and the City of Ely crier was on hand to formally announce the end of the rum ration and eight bells were tolled.

A hundred tots of rum were passed around, accompanied by loyal toasts to the Queen, and a running buffet was served.

Branch members from Wisbech, City of Ely and Peterborough attended the ceremony.
