THE future of Wisbech's Tourist Information Centre is uncertain. It could be either scaled down or closed in a move to save Fenland District Council £60,000.Wisbech and District Regeneration Group met on Monday to discuss the plans, and have decided to pass their concerns to the council. A working group has been formed with the aim of informing the council of how the cuts will affect the Fens.It is believed Fenland bosses have already held meetings with TIC staff, informing them of possible redundancies and that they could be offered alternative positions. Closure could result in the loss of four part-time staff and one full-time position.Alan Sherfield, chairman of Wisbech and District Tourism and Development Group, said: "It is certainly a loss for visitors to Wisbech and for the town itself. The centre provides a vital service and no-one offers this for visitors."A Fenland Council spokesman said: "The cabinet has developed draft proposals and we will be consulting with staff before any decision is made."Proposals include having tourism-related queries delt with by Fenland@Your Service staff.
