THE annual Rugby Sevens tournament, held at the Braza field, March, on Sunday, was won by the Cassanos restaurant team.
Cassanos was up against six rival teams from local pubs the Rose and Crown, the Stars and the Cock Inn plus scratch team the British Lions (Varsity), Gabriels from Aberystwyth University, and visitors Minsters, also from Aberystwyth.
Cassano met Gabriels in the final and the Cock Inn met Minsters in the losers' plate final which the Cock won.
The event ran from 11.30am to 3.50pm and the teams were split into two leagues and played round robin matches. About 100 spectators turned up to cheer on the players.
The tournament, organised for the sixth year by March Bears Rugby Club, is mainly intended for local teams although the visiting teams were put together by ex-players from the March club. The Rugby Sevens tournament offers "a bit of fun before the pre-season start", according to club chairman John Boyle.
