Turbine powers into action at potato supplier in March

The single turbine on Floods Ferry Road has a generation capacity of 1.5MW and will provide enough electricity to power the potato processing facility with some surplus power to the local electricity network.

The turbine is now connected to the grid and to Greenvale’s electrical system with the company already using the power produced by the turbine in their facility.

Greenvale was able to benefit from the high wind speeds generating large volumes of renewable electricity over Christmas and New Year season with the turbine working throughout December and January.

“It’s fantastic to now have the turbine fully commissioned and operating, generating power for Greenvale’s facility. Wind power can and does provide a significant contribution to the economy, both local and national, as well as reducing greenhouse gas emissions and increasing energy security,” commented Matthew Clayton, Executive Director at Triodos Renewables.

Specialist construction firm, Wind Prospect, has managed the build process to time and budget, with the civil engineering works delivered by local contractor R G Carter.

Part of a wider investment project by Triodos Renewables, the Floods Ferry Road turbine at Greenvale is one of six turbines due to be commissioned in Cambridgeshire this year. A further five turbines with a combined generation capacity of 10.25 MW are being installed on a separate site at Boardinghouse, also near March.
