AN angry dad who threatened to hit two Special Constables with an iron bar after they accused him of driving without a seat belt has been given a two month suspended jail sentence.

Robin Hicks must carry out 140 hours of unpaid work and pay 100 compensation after admitting a charge of threatening behaviour. He will be supervised by the probation service for a year.

At an earlier court hearing, Fenland magistrates were told that Hicks told one officer: “Shut up or I am going to smash your glasses into your face.”

Hicks had told his brother to fetch an iron bar, and swore as he said he wanted the weapon to smash the officers.

Hicks, 35, of Fairbairn Way, Chatteris, had been seen driving without a seat belt, said prosecutor Andrea Fawcett. He was verbally aggressive when told he would be given a 60 on-the-spot fine.

Hicks later explained that he had been taking his son to the park to ride his new bicycle on his birthday.

Solicitor Ian Graham had said that Hicks suffered from depression and did not accept he had driven without a seat belt.
