Two people have been arrested in connection with a police officer scam across the county.

A 16-year-old boy and a 22-year-old man, both from Cambridge, have been arrested and are currently in custody.

Last month, nine elderly Fenland residents – one of them aged 89 – were targeted by an organised gang who pretended to be police officers and coaxed them to part with thousands of pounds.

Police are continuing to warn people not to fall foul of the scam which has been taking place over the past three months.

In the scam, the victim is called by someone claiming to be a police officer and told a criminal has been arrested with a substantial sum of money on them and a list of names and addresses, including yours.

They claim your bank is under investigation for putting fraudulent bank notes into your bank account.

To report an incident in action always call 999, if it is after the event call Action Fraud on 0300 123040.
