Crews from Dogsthorpe and Thorney were called to a road traffic collision in Wisbech Road, Thorney Toll at around 7.30pm last night (Wednesday).

Two vehicles were involved in a collision and one vehicle had landed in a ditch. Firefighters used specialist cutting equipment to release two casualties, who were taken to hospital by ambulance.

Crews returned to station by 9pm.

Station Commander Carl Pardon said: “Our crews attended two road traffic collisions within two hours at the same roundabout. Luckily, our services were not required at the first incident but at this second incident, crews worked closely with ambulance and police colleagues to rescue two people.

“We do not like to see any areas in the county becoming collision hot-spots so would ask all motorists to take just that bit of extra care on the roads now the winter nights have really set in. Slow down, take into account the road conditions and drive to arrive.”
