At 8.35am, a Magpas air ambulance arrived on the scene - where one vehicle ended up in a field and another was off the road on the opposite carriageway - to treat two people who had been injured in the collision.

Magpas doctor Maria Smith and paramedic Dan Read assessed a woman in her 80s who had suffered a serious leg injury.

The team sedated the woman, providing A&E level specialist care, before accompanying her by land ambulance to Addenbrooke’s Hospital.

The patient was in a stable condition on arrival.
