Two reporters from The Fishy News, Gorefield Primary School’s thriving newspaper, went undercover on a secret shopping task.

Kashia and Jessica visited four shops and were very impressed with the customer service they received.

This is their report:

We were given clipboards and set a task to go secret shopping. We had to go into various shops, write down our findings and then ask to see the managers of the businesses.

We told them what we found out and our thoughts. It was so exciting. We thought they might not take us seriously but we were wrong.

At McDonald’s, we ordered some food and sat at a table. The staff looked neat and tidy and they were busy all the time.

We got our food quickly. We thought there could be more high chairs. Sauces, straws and napkins were found easily.

The staff were well mannered. The manager introduced himself and he listened carefully to us and was interested in what we found out. He liked our idea about larger print on the menu boards. He made us feel very important.

We then went to Pets At Home. The fish tanks were spotless and the whole shop was well stocked.

All the items were well sectioned. The rabbit cages are modern and the staff polite.

The manager came to speak with us and again was very nice listening to what we said.

We asked questions about re-homing the animals and how they handled them. We were very impressed as he knew everything about the pets he was selling.

Our third stop was Currys PC World, which had a good range of products with a carry to your car service.

Staff were well dressed and easily spotted in their uniforms. We asked about some products and they knew the answers to our questions.

We did find a box placed in an aisle which blocked the way so we told a staff member.

We asked a customer about their shopping experience, and they said it was good.

The manager listened to what we said seriously and we sat at his desk.

He was polite and moved the box. He was well dressed and had shiny shoes.

The final shop we visited was Beales. There were nice quality items for sale and different brands.

The prices were clear and they offer a Personal Shopper Service.

Clothes mannequins are a good idea. Everything was neat and tidy. The manager came immediately when we asked to see him. He was well dressed and polite to us.

We walked around the store and pointed out a shelving unit that made it difficult to get past and he arranged to move it, wrote down our thoughts and didn’t rush us.

The manager explained about how they recycle waste, which was very interesting.
