Government departments, post offices, banks and low-standard airlines, insist that we produce a passport and full driving licence. Even for a pensioners' bus pass, these are demanded, plus a recent utility bill.
Has it ever occurred to officials who created the identity imposition, that even in this car-mad nation, that we don't all drive, and many don't wish to risk life and health by taking a holiday in foreign places?
There exist numerous people who cannot afford the passport fee.
The United Kingdom is now a jittery surveillance state.
