It was confirmed today that the body recovered from the River Nene at Wisbech on March 3 was that of missing Wisbech man Stephen Fox.

Coroner William Morris revealed he opened and adjourned the inquest into Mr Fox’s death yesterday.

Mr Fox, 49, of Clarkson Avenue, Wisbech, left his home on January 31 at 6.20am: his body was discovered in the River Nene, near the old bridge, just after 6pm on Monday March 3.

A brief statement from the coroner said the cause of death was “unascertained pending toxicology” and he said the inquest would resume on June 18

The discovery of Mr Fox’s body came after weeks of anxious waiting for news by his family.

Father of three Mr Fox went missing in the early hours of January 31; he was said to be suffering with post traumatic stress syndrome.

Mr Fox, who worked at Whitemoor Prison, had been married for 25 years and he and his wife had three children.
