The man, who police said was from the Ely area, was the driver of one of the cars and according to Magpas he “suffered a traumatic cardiac arrest at the scene of the incident.”
“Sadly, despite the Helimedix best efforts providing advanced life support, there was nothing more they could do for him.”
A Magpas spokesman said the driver was confirmed dead at the scene but a female passenger, aged 61 and also from the Ely area, sustained a chest injury.
“She was treated with pain relief by the Magpas team and they then accompanied her in a land ambulance to Addenbrooke’s Hospital,” said the spokesman.
“On arrival her condition was described as not serious.”
The two cars involved, a BMW M3 and a Peordua Myvi, collided on the A142 Chatteris Bypass, just after 10am which blocked the road for several hours.
Magpas Helimedix (volunteer Dr Maria Smith and volunteer paramedic Simon Standen) arrived in the Elms BMW Rapid Response Vehicle at 10:15am.
The driver of the first car was treated by the EEAST Ambulance Crew on scene.
The driver of the BMW, a 43-year-old man from March, and his two passangers, a 43-year-old woman and a 14-year-old boy, suffered minor injuries.
