FIREFIGHTERS freed three people who were trapped in their cars after a two-vehicle collision closed the A47 between Wisbech and Guyhirn yesterday.

Magpas doctors, ambulance crews and the fire service attended the incident at Redmoor Lane, Wisbech, which happened shortly after 4pm. Firefighters used specialist cutting equipment to release three casualties.

Two people suffered minor injuries in the collision, which involved a silver Saab and a silver Citroen Xsara Picasso.

A man in his 80s was treated for chest injuries before being taken to King’s Lynn Hospital, where his condition was described as serious but stable.

The road was closed between the A141 Ring’s End roundabout near Guyhirn and the B198 Cromwell Road roundabout near Wisbech, causing heavy traffic across Fenland.
