SCHOOLS in Whittlesey have filled more than 500 shoeboxes with gifts to send to needy children in Eastern Europe.

Sir Harry Smith Community College led the record-breaking effort by filling a spectacular 452 boxes. Alderman Jacobs Primary School chipped in with 34 while Coates Primary School collected 19.

Graham Jones, from Whittlesey Rotary Club, said: “This is an annual rotary organised event where shoeboxes are filled and sent to Eastern Europe.

“They are distributed to children who have very little and they are greatly appreciated. Many thanks to all who helped with this record-breaking effort.”
