A refurbished pub is open for business with a side serving of food thanks to a village business that has moved in.

South West Norfolk MP Elizabeth Truss this week praised the work carried out to re-open the Five Bells Inn, Upwell.

The refurbished pub, brought earlier this year by local businessman Christopher Robinson and James Brighty, is due to open late summer 2015 under the watchful eye of Joe Elliot.

Due to demand Joe has already moved her established business of three years, Joe’s Nose Bag, across the river into one section of the Inn and now offers breakfast and lunches, from 7.30am to 2.30 pm.

Joe also offers sandwich deliveries and in early Autumn hopes to launch a meals on wheels scheme for local residents.

Elizabeth said: ‘The location is fantastic, right beside the church with stunning views of the river and I am very impressed by the commitment from the Robinson-Brighty Partnership to get the inn fully functioning again.

“With an established sandwich delivery business, Joe hopes to use her expertise to offer meals on wheels which will be a wonderful asset to a rural community like Upwell.

The building dates back to 1777.

It was called The Rose and Crown when it was offered for sale by auction in May 1811.

It became a commercial hotel and posting house and in the 1980s was the Norfolk Punch Health Inn.

It went back to the Five Bells in 1992.
