He has been named locally as Arthur Mason and is believed to be the son of Hugh Mason, who runs Larchwood Foods Limited.

The company is based at Swaffham Road, Fincham - where Mr Mason died after falling into a grain silo on Wednesday.

His death has sent shockwaves around the village of Fincham.

Chairman of Fincham Parish Council, Stewart Waterston said: “The village is in shock. I have come back from being away so I don’t know much but the people I have spoken to say that everyone is in shock.

“We know that the farm business is dangerous and accidents on farms are common but it is still shocking.”

Friends took to social media to talk of their shock.

On Twitter, Stuart Austin tweeted: “One status can’t do justice to somebody who was so much to so many people.

Arthur Mason you will be sadly missed.”

The University of Gloucestershire Men’s Rugby Union tweeted: “We are devastated to inform anyone who doesn’t know that Arthur Mason passed away yesterday. We love and will miss him beyond words #legend.”

The university’s tennis club also tweeted: “R.I.P Arthur Mason. Our thoughts go out to his family, friends and the @UGRFC team in this hard time.”

Friends have also arranged on Twitter to meet up for a drink at the Frog and Fiddle pub in Cheltenham.

West Norfolk borough councillor Trevor Manley said that he heard the sad news at Barton Bendish council meeting.

He said: “We held a few minutes silence for him. I feel so sorry for his family and who he has left behind.”

A villager who did not want to be named said that he heard about the tragedy.

He said: “Twenty-two is no age, I can’t believe it.”

A Health and Safety Executive spokesman confirmed that investigations into how Arthur died are ongoing.

A spokesman said: “We are aware of the incident and we working with Norfolk Constabulary but that is all we can say at this time.”
