A group of residents have begun a social media campaign to remove the daily reminder from 30 years ago of when they won a best kept village award.

A village discussion forum on Facebook has attracted dozens of comments since the idea was floated earlier this week to have the best village triumphs of 1984 and 1985 removed from the sign.

“Makes me smile too...as though time has stopped still,” wrote one villager.

Another wrote: “Has anyone walked round the village lately?......if not please do so then you will realise why its been 30 years since we won it or even came close.

“I’m ashamed to say it’s a real dump in places...the worst it’s been in my 60 years here.”

One other villager wrote: “We need a nice white village entry fence; the old sign removed and replaced with new Manea village sign. This will do for starters! Are you listening parish council?”

Manea Street Pride reminded readers “there will be meeting on October 15 at 10am at the park for a tidy up. Hope to see you all there”.

But it’s not just in Manea seemingly where memories linger.

“They have the signs up still in Wimblington too,” wrote one other reader.
