CARROTFEST came to the Fens at the weekend in honour of the mighty carrot and the role it has played in the local history of the area.

The celebration of the vital ingredient in the agricultural heritage of Fenland attracted lots of curious people to The Anchor Inn in Wimblington and raised money for Macmillan Cancer Support.

Carrot racing, carrot cake, carrot wine, carrot hoopla and carrot cocktails were all on the menu for the two-day event which was the idea of owner John McGinn.

There was also live entertainment with Winston The Singing Farmer, Kerry and The Giants, From Me 2 U and a visit by boxing legend Dave Boy Green.

Mr McGinn said: “Some people laughed at the novelty factor of the event but people really liked it. They came to have a fun time and it was certainly that. We may possibly run it as a regular event.”
