I REFER to your story last week about Robert Harvey and his campaign to have all dogs kept on a lead at all times.
If the council agrees with him and implements this I hope it will be providing a secure area for dogs to be off a lead. My perfectly well-behaved husky-cross needs a good long run every day. Walking does not keep her fit or tire her out.
We have walked her from Cambridge to Ely along the river (about 25 miles) and when we got to the pick-up car at the end she was still full of beans.
By refusing the dogs of March an area to stretch their legs and have a run you are stopping them expressing their natural behaviour. They are, after all, sprinting animals.
Maybe it's time for dog licensing to come back. Maybe then fewer dogs would be dumped, harmed or left to run riot.
