A war memorial in the former Wisbech Post Office could be moved to the town’s delivery office.

The plaque, which remembers 13 fallen soldiers from the First and Second World War, hangs inside the 19th century grade II listed building at 1 Bridge Street, which up until last month was the town’s post office.

It relocated to Etcetera, a shop 20 metres away, on March 28.

An application has been made to Fenland District Council for permission to make both external and internal changes to the building.

If successful, The Post Office will remove signage and the stamp vending machine from outside the building and all the “Post Office” signage, equipment, counters, furniture and light fittings from inside.

The application said: “We do not envisage that the internal and external proposals will have a detrimental effect on the existing character of the building.”
