NO fewer than six records were broken when the Queen's Boys' School held its swimming sports at the Borough Swimming Baths in the summer of 1955.
M Richardson (Spartan house) won the senior championship cup and personally smashed three of records. They were the four widths stroke race, and the one and two lengths freestyle.
In the two lengths freestyle, R Hancock (Grecian) lowered the time by one second; G Hollis (Roman) did a record plunge of 31ft 2in; and in the final event the Roman relay team knocked six seconds off the previous best.
The mayor and mayoress of Wisbech, Councillor and Mrs W Allen, were there, and the mayoress presented the prizes.
Councillor Allen said 51 boys had learned to swim in the previous six weeks and one in every three boys at the school could swim.
