I AM sure that the residents of the Waterlees Ward must take offence from the fact that the various councils involved regard their ward as an area of multiple deprivation. It may be lacking in facilities but then so is the whole of Wisbech. Waterlees has managed to retain a village feeling and mentality, neighbours know each other (which in this day and age is unusual) and everyone is friendly.

Just because a ward is made up of the elderly, migrant workers and people with varying needs does not make it deprived. Lack of investment makes an area deprived. Consecutive councils have let not only the people of waterlees down but the people of Wisbech.

It seems that the row over the parking in the market has been going on longer than the Archers. The so called cinema still isn’t here. The council can allow Tesco’s to expand but not encourage other large retailers into the town. The park on Waterlees field is a prime example. It is supposed to improve the area and to quote your article improve the quality of life for children and young people. No it wont. Schools will pay for their pupils to use the facilities and local children will not have access at certain hours. Even then there are age restrictions. And where will all of this money that the schools are paying Cambridgeshire County Council go? Back into the Waterlees Ward? No. It could end up anywhere in the county but it certainly wont end up back in the ward. I feel that Wisbech has been deliberately allowed to become run down and none of the councillers, Wisbech Town, Fenland District and Cambridgeshire County care. We are becoming the poor man of the fens not the capital and it is the councils that are to blame. You have been voted in by your constituants, you should represent them and fight for this town.
