FLOOD waters are slowly receding on the Whittlesey Wash - but highways bosses face a huge clear-up operation before the road can reopen.
Torrential rain caused a sustained period of flooding and road closures in Fenland and the B1040 at Whittlesey Wash, between Whittlesey and Thorney, did not escape unscathed.
These pictures, sent to this newspaper by Cambridgeshire County Council, shows the destruction that the floods have left behind.
A council spokesman said: “While the flood water is slowly dropping back, there will be quite a clear-up when we get the all-clear from the Environment Agency.”
