A car enthusiast from Westry is celebrating after winning one of the most prestigious historic rallies in Europe for the second time.

Jez Haylock and his co-driver, Gareth Burnett sped to success in the ERA Alpine Trial Vintage Car rally in the French Alps over the weekend of September 26.

The Fenland driver took the wheel of a green vintage 1931 Talbot Brookland race car and travelled over 700 miles without suffering any penalties to seal the win.

The vintage car, prepared by Haverhill firm Pace Products, was previously owned by Chatteris’ John Ruston and was also the winning vehicle in world renowned race, the Le Mans Classic.
