Thrive Renewables say the open day will include educational activities for all the family. There will be a wind farm game, where visitors can learn about how turbines fit into the landscape around them, and an ecology trail around the site.

There will also be face painting, other wind farm activities and light refreshments.

“We’re inviting the local community to come on down and find out more about wind energy, by getting up close to a turbine and taking part in lots of fun, educational activities,” say organisers.

Additionally, there will be an interactive climate change science show from ExplorerDome – an immersive experience for children of all ages.

ExplorerDome will first visit Lionel Walden Primary School, Doddington the day before the open day, to educate and stimulate understanding around how wind farms play a part in cleaning up the UK’s energy system.

Deputy headteacher Natalie Bayes said: “As a school we always encourage interactive ways for children to learn, and so we’re looking forward to the ExplorerDome coming to Doddington. “With wind farms all over the local area, it’s great that our pupils can learn more about how they work and contribute to the environment.”

Matthew Clayton, managing director of Thrive Renewables, said: “We’re delighted to once again connect with the Doddington and March community, giving local people the opportunity to get up close to the turbines to see for themselves how they work to produce clean electricity to homes across the country.”

The open day takes place on Saturday September 17 from 10am-3pm.

Tickets are free but registration is essential. To book, visit www.thriverenewables.co.uk/openday
