Whittlesey's new cycling community officer is making his presence felt with the town's illegal parkers after issuing 58 fixed penalty notices in January.

PCSO Matt Smart, who joined the Whittlesey and district neighbourhood policing team in December and has been carrying out cycle patrols in the town ever since, said: "It is great to be able to get around the town easily and meet people."

The team has also been joined by PCSO Marie Quentin, who previously worked in Chatteris. She has been spending time visiting the schools to build relationships and ensure the police are tackling the issues important to them.

She said: "Young people do not tend to go to public meetings or regularly communicate with officers and it is, therefore, important to visit local schools.

"It is essential that we know the issues and concerns surrounding crime, effecting young people in the town so that we can focus on resolving them."

PCSO Quentin has also been actively promoting the "Vehicle Alert Scheme" which highlights those vehicles parked in and around the town, with valuables clearly on display.
