An inmate at Whitemoor has been charged with the attempted murder of a fellow prisoner following an incident last October.

Kevin McCarthy, 49, is due to appear at Peterborough Magistrates Court tomorrow morning (April 13) following the attack on October 2, 2016.

The victim, Damien Fowkes, 41, also of HMP Whitemoor was taken to hospital where he was treated for life threatening injuries to his neck.

In 2011 Fowkes, already serving a life sentence for armed robbery, was jailed for a minimum of 20 years for the attempted murder of Soham murderer Ian Huntley.

Fowkes attacked Huntley with a weapon he made by melting a razor blade onto plastic cutlery, leaving the killer with a seven-inch gaping hole in his neck.

McCarthy is a native of Glasgow but formerly resident in Kent.
