A host of good causes are once again set to reap the benefits from the annual Whittlesey and District Lions Santa Float.

The Santa Float, which travels around Whittlesey and the surrounding villages, racked in a record breaking £3,200 last year.

The organisers hope this year’s tour, which takes place from December 1-15, will inspire similar generosity from the community.

Last year’s stunning haul paid for a shed for Whittlesey Child Minders at St Andrew’s Hall, the training of two Hearing Dogs for the Deaf, Scaldgate Club’s visit to the Peterborough Lions variety show and for a young woman suffering from Batten Disease to go to Alton Towers.

Other organisations to receive donations were the Oasis Centre, SERV (a charity which donates blood and baby milk to hospitals) and Whittlesey Cricket Club.

This year’s schedule: December 1 - Coates; December 2 - Turves; December 3 - Bassenhally Road/Cemetery road; December 4 - Station Road/New Road; December 5 - Gracious Street/Stonald Road/Glenfields; December 6 - Bellmans Road/New Road/Nursery Gardens; December 8 - Eastrea Village; December 9 - Snoots Road; December 10 - Mill Road/New Road/Eastrea Road; December 11 - Avenues Area/Guldenburgh Crescent; December 13 - No Collection Extravaganza; December 14 - Teal Road Birds Estate; December 15 - Church Street/Ramsey Road.
