A Whittlesey man has raised £2,000 by tackling a gruelling cycling challenge.

Paul Gilbert raised the impressive sum for Addenbrooke’s Hospital’s Children’s cancer ward by taking part in four mountain bike challenges in the Lake District and Scotland.

He celebrated his 60th birthday by handing over the cheque at the hospital’s charitable trust unit on November 27.

His son, Scott, said: “Paul is an avid cyclist and after spending a lot of time at Addenbrooke’s, donating blood and platelets over the last few years. He decided this was a cause he could go the extra mile for – pun intended!

“He’d like to thank all of his family and friends who supported him through the challenge.”
