SLEEPING safely -these mice are the picture of contentment in their temporary new home at the RSPCA's Block Fen centre after their desperate owner abandoned them.Roz Wybrew, the centre's deputy manager, found the 58 baby mice in a box on the doorstep of the centre on Monday."Thankfully we had space for them as the owners obviously just couldn't cope with them," she said."They have all been well cared for and are in good condition but are very young, only about four or five weeks' old."Mrs Wybrew said the mice would make very good pets and the sexes had already been separated to avoid any further multiplication! She said: "The mice are a variety of colours, white, brown and black, and are very tame so they must have been used to being handled."Potential new owners will be asked to make a donation to the vital work at the centre, said Mrs Wybrew, but stressed they would have to show they had the appropriate cages for the rodents' safe keeping. She said: "These mice will make lovely pets and we are keen to re-home them as soon as possible."But it is better to have at least a same-sex pair as they like to have company."The centre is off the A142 March bypass at Block Fen Drove, Wimblington.Opening hours at the centre are: 11.30am to 3.30pm every day except Wednesdays. The centre can be contacted on 0870 906 1426 and there is a website for viewing animals available for adoption at www.rspca.org.uk/rehomingtrial
