THIS is the spectacular new look which may transform part of the shopping centre of March.

Once March Deep Freeze closes at the end of the month, this could be the dazzling shopping complex that will replace it - four times the sales area of the existing premises.

And it could be fashion chain New Look that takes on board the lease of the shop from the new owners, Reef Estates of London.

Although the company says New Look is "one of the companies we are talking to", the fashion store has held detailed talks with Reef about opening up in March.

A spokesman for Reef said it was "not set in stone" that New Look - the UK's third largest retailer - would definitely be coming to town.

Whoever takes over the premises, however, is expected to provide up to 12 additional retail jobs, says Reef Estates.

Fenland District Council has already approved the detailed drawing, above, for the new store, but several conditions must be met as part of the approval.

These include restrictions on opening times, to ensure neighbours do not get disturbed, and archaeological work must take place on the site once the freezer centre comes down.

After almost 34 years of trading, March Deep Freeze will close its doors at the end of this month with the retirement of owners Stephen and Linda Butler.

In 1972 the freezer shop occupied just one small unit next to the Coachmaker's Arms pub.

But by 1987 the Butlers occupied the whole row of four shops.
