BIDDING was brisk at Elm WI's harvest meeting at the Dale last Thursday. A good variety of produce was brought in by members and two dressed dolls were given for auction by a Dale resident.

Before the auction, a short business meeting was led by president Jean Toms assisted by secretary Marjorie Cotterell and treasurer Betty Stone.

Peggy Houlden was welcomed back after a long absence due to illness. Several visitors from the Dale were also welcomed.

The secretary arranged transport for the council meeting in Whittlesey on October 24. Invitations had also been received to the Walsoken harvest meeting and March St Mary's

Christmas dinner, and whist/luncheon on November 3. Names were taken of members wishing to go to these events. Barbara Smart is to contact the Federation office regarding a misprint of the carol service. The start time is 7pm not 2pm.

Birthday greetings and a pen were presented to Sally Johnson. A pen will be taken to Doris Harvey. The president welcomed Mac Cotterell, who again auctioned the produce.

He was thanked by the president and presented with a bottle of wine. Refreshments were served by the committee. The raffle was supervised by Eileen Lock.

Barbara Smart distributed newsletters. Visitors' hostess was Jeanie Hellon and door steward Elsie Bird. Two harvest hymns were sung accompanied by pianist Marjorie Cotterell, who also assisted the auctioneer.
