Competitors from far and wide will once again battle it out to the crowned champion when Wisbech Lions Club’s annual Wisbech & Fenland Conker Championships returns on Friday, October 10.

Local Horse Chestnut trees are being watched to ensure the best possible supply of conkers will be available.

Already registered for the competition, which will be held at the Oasis Community Centre in Wisbech, are entrants from March, Beccles, Holbeach and Hunstanton.

Kevin Rodgers, of wisbech Lions, said: “The only qualifications needed are a sense of fun and the ability not to take things too seriously.

“Conkers are provided, brief training is available if necessary, Sausage and mash supper will be given and the beer is good.”
