Fenland artists are being invited to display their work in the window of an empty shop in Wisbech Horsefair.
The new Wisbech Art Space in being run by Red Barn Creative, a local arts organisation.
The idea to create the art space came about following the Wisbech Art Festival when Lorena Hodgson, owner of Red Barn Creative, and Kevin Smith, manager of the Horsefair Shopping Centre, discussed utilising an empty shop to exhibit artists’ work.
Kevin said: “We are very pleased to have this opportunity to support a community project that profiles local artists. I was very much in favour of the idea and when a store became vacant I came up with the name Wisbech Art Space which is open to all artists over the area.
Lorena said: “I wanted to find another way to help artists reach a wider audience and for longer than a day at the markets I run. Not all artists or craft makers suit a market environment so this provides them the perfect opportunity to showcase their work.”
The first artist to have his work displayed, Jamie McGrane, said: “I am pleased to have been invited. Wisbech is an interesting town. It has a wealth of inspiration and history, I love living here and the arts are abundant with talented people”.
Artists’ work from all over the area will be displayed, and will be available to view and buy on the website at www.wisbechartspace.com where more information can be found.
