The by-elections were called following the death of Councillor Bruce Wegg in October.

Polling takes place at The Salvation Army Citadel in John Thompson Road from 7am-10pm.

SAMANTHA HOY

SAMANTHA Hoy is County Councillor for Wisbech North and the deputy mayor of Wisbech. She represents Hill ward on the town council.

The 26-year-old has studied social policy in Cambridge and has worked with young people as a leader to help engage them in local issues and politics.

She is a Trustee for the Bowthorpe Association, a charity that helps people affected by mental illness.

She is also a member of Cambridgeshire Fire Authority, regional chairman of the Eastern Conservative Future, governor at Nene Infant School and chairman of the Friends of Wisbech Adventure Playground.

Cllr Hoy said: “I believe that only by listening to people and being out and about in the community can a councillor properly represent people’s views.

“I do my best to work with other local people to deliver a better, brighter and more positive future for Wisbech North.”

DEAN REEVES

HE has been a civil servant for more than 20 years, during which he has served as a school governor and on youth offender panels.

He rejoined the Labour Party in 2010 following several years supporting the Liberal Democrats before becoming disenchanted with the coalition’s spending and policing cuts.

He is keen to introduce a 20mph speed limit in residential areas and work with officials and police on road priorities and parking enforcement.

He said: “My election priorities are to see more visible efforts being made to integrate the different parts of what is a very diverse community.

“Whilst local businesses benefit from the pool of migrant workers there needs to be greater openness with the community as to what these same companies do to assist with welfare and housing issues.”

JOHN WHITE

JOHN White served on Wisbech Town and Fenland District Councils from 1995-1999.

He serves on the boards of three housing associations, is an active member of the Royal Anglian Regiment Association and the Wisbech branch of the Royal British Legion, as well as serving on the committee of the Wisbech Museum.

Mr White said: “Wisbech is my home, I’ve lived here all my life and I know what matters to our community. I want to use my experience and expertise to serve my community as a councillor.

“Local people are worried about anti-social behaviour around Boyces Road, the state of the pavements in Bush Lane and Claremont Road and cars speeding through Fundrey Road.

“If elected I would always stand-up for Wisbech and do what’s right for our community.”

MICHELLE TANFIELD

MARRIED with one son, Michelle Tanfield lives in Wisbech and runs her own computer recycling company.

Prior to founding her own business, she worked for Essex County Council and the London Pensions Fund Authority. As a consequence, she has gleaned significant insight into how councils operate.
