STUDENTS from Wisbech Grammar School took the top two spots in a regional foreign language spelling bee and are through to the national final.
Yasmin Ahmad, 12, and Dina Aldrich, 11, came first and second respectively in the German section of east regional final of the Routes into Languages Foreign Language Spelling Bee, held at Comberton Village College, near Cambridge.
The competition, which attracted more than 6,000 contestants from across East Anglia, involved translating and spelling words in languages including French, Spanish and German.
Monika Skinner, a German teacher who accompanied the girls to the competition, said: “The girls gave a very confident performance and were a credit to the school. They were not fazed by anything.”
Both girls will go through to the national finals on July 6 at Anglia Ruskin University in Cambridge.
