An arson attack on a Wisbech sports pavilion is being investigated by police.

Last night at around 6.45pm, two crews from Wisbech and one crew from March were called to the fire at the pavilion on Harecroft Road, Wisbech.

A fire service spokesman said: “Crews arrived to find a fire in the sports pavilion which had spread to the roof.

“Wearing breathing apparatus, firefighters used two hose reels and one jet to extinguish the fire.

“Short extension ladders were also used to remove tiles from the roof.”

The crew returned to their station by 9.30pm.

The spokesman confirmed: “The cause of the fire was deliberate.”
