A teenager will celebrate her 18th birthday by leaping out of a plane at 12,000 ft in aid of a cancer charity.

Hannah Shales, 17, of Wisbech, is taking part in a tandem skydive at Sibson Skydive Centre on July 1 to raise funds for Cancer Research UK.

It is a cause close to her heart - both her grandmother and granddad lost their lives to cancer in the space of six months.

She said: “I will be completing the event on my 18th birthday as I believe it is a great way to celebrate my birthday whilst raising as much money as I possibly can for a very important charity, Cancer Research UK.

“Within a six month period, my family and I dealt with the loss of both my Nan and Grandad from different types of cancer.

“It is the thought that they, along with so many others, could still be alive today if it was not for cancer that is driving me to do this.

“So please join me in helping to fight cancer and support me by sponsoring.”
