Wisbech Town Football Club has teamed up with Camquit to encourage local smokers to make quitting their goal this Stoptober.

The call comes as figures show that people are uniting behind the smoke free message in Fenland with nearly 7000 people having registered with Camquit to stop smoking in the last five years.

As part of their new teamwork, Cambridgeshire County Council’s Stop Smoking Service, will be running a stall at Wisbech Town Football Club’s ground on match days. The Camquit team will also be out and about in their CAMQUIT mobile van around so pop-by. Advisors will be available to offer information, advice, and support on quitting smoking. Dates and venues for Camquit mobile service include:

Wednesday October 7 March Market place; Thursday October 8 Rosmini Centre, Wisbech; Friday St Peter’s Church Hall, March; Thursday October 15 Baptist Church Hall, Wisbech; Friday October 16 Whittlesey Market; Wednesday October 22 Asda Wisbech; Friday October 30 Chatteris Market.

Stoptober is a national campaign run by Public Health England and is supported by Camquit locally. Around a quarter of million people took part took part in campaign last year pledging to quit for 28 days, with research showing that people who quit for this length of time are five times more likely to quit for good. The campaign runs from 1 to 28 October and provides support, guidance and tools (such as apps) for smokers wishing to attempt to go smokefree for 28-days.
