TRAVELLERS who set up an illegal camp at Wisbech Town Rugby Club have promised council officials they will leave today.
This photo, taken last night by a Wisbech Standard reader at around 6.30pm, shows the club’s rugby posts at their Harecroft Road being used temporarily as a washing line for the families who are camped there.
A spokesman for Fenland District Council said they were made aware of the travellers’ arrival and officials from the travellers’ and diversity team met with them on Monday.
“Our understanding is that they stopped off at Wisbech on route to somewhere else,” said a council spokesman.
“They didn’t intend saying and confirmed they would be leaving today.”
