Woman, 92, forced back to basics after 3,000 gallons of water removed from garden- and still it keeps coming

The woman has been unable to use her toilet for several days and other households in the area are getting unwanted water flooding into their gardens and back yards.

Council contractors spent the day trying to work out why parts of Westry near March have been flooded and in particular why the woman’s garden remains knee deep in water.

Near by neighbour and local councillor Jan French said: “Although it is still flooded that’s nothing compared to what it was earlier. Yesterday they pumped 3,000 gallons of water from her garden.”

The stranded woman lives in a bungalow next to KFC – and near to where a 25ft advertising sign was erected when the fast food store opened last year.

But after a day of intense activity – which included removing earth to find covered up man hole covers and sending cameras into the drains to find a blockage- the cause of the flooding remains a mystery.

Officials wonder if part of one drain has been blocked up since the camera sent down indicates a ‘dead end’ at a mid way point. Loose tarmac chippings are visible but contractors said these would normally be flushed away by steam cleaners. The fact the cleaners haven’t been able to operate effectively indicate the drain has been terminated at a mid way point.

Mrs French said: “Whatever it costs this has got to be rectified quickly. They can work out blame later and who to send the bill to but this has to be resolved.”

The area has seen intense building activity in recent years and officials sent out for Google Earth maps and old drawings to find the positioning and routes for the drainage systems.
