A MARCH woman was hit over the head with a bottle and then pulled into her flat by her hair during a sustained attack in the early hours of Saturday morning.

Samantha Thompson had arrived home to find 18-year-old Carrie StClair at her High Street flat.

StClair hit Ms Thompson twice over the head with an empty bottle, and then dragged her up 20 steps.

When Ms Thompson got free she went into her flat and locked the door, but the door was smashed open, breaking off the hinges, and she was punched by StClair, prosecutor Andrew Williams told Fenland magistrates on Wednesday.

He said Ms Thompson was also hit over the head with a vanity mirror, and punched again.

She was left with injuries that included a swelling on her head, cuts on her back and shoulder, and cuts to her left arm. The motivation for the attack had been a quarrel over a boyfriend.

Mitigating, John Clarke said StClair, of Deerfield Road, March, was let into the flat and did not break the door, and did not hit Ms Thompson with the mirror.

After the attack, StClair returned with someone else and the flat door was damaged then, he added.

Committing StClair for sentencing at Cambridge Crown Court, presiding magistrate Alan Jones told her: "This was a sustained attack in the victim's home.
