AT the May WI meeting in the Community Centre secretary Janet Groves reminded members of the group meeting at Wisbech WI Hall on May 16. Other invitations were read out. Arrangements were made for the WI competition at the East of England Show, to be organised by Margaret Clowes. Birthday pens were presented to Gill Kirby, Linda Cragg and Barbara Kinsley. Speaker was Eileen Plater, of Wisbech, who spoke about thimbles and brought along part of her collection for members to view. She also held a free raffle for a Wisbech thimble which was won by Helen Mitchell. Winner of the cup for the Flower of the Month competition was Phyliss Balls with 57 points. Other entries were Mollie Rollins (56 points), Valerie Ware (49), Elsie Goult (38), Margaret Clowes (37), Linda Cragg (30), Barbara Gray (29), Gill Kirby and Jackie Read (25), Janet Groves (23), Anne Rowell (22), Pauline Robinson (10) and Mary Fox (nine). Points awarded in the monthly competition for a thimble were: Five, J Hastie, B Tinsley, M Kitchen, J Keep, J Reed, M Rollins; four, V Ware, M Clowes, G Kirby, P Powell, M Bodle. All entries for Flower of the Month received five points.
