AT the monthly meeting, vice-president Barbara Smart presided, assisted by secretary Marjorie Cotterell and treasurer Betty Stone. Olive Spurr was welcomed back after a long absence, and the one visitor, Kathleen Sanderson, was also welcomed. A letter of thanks was received from Cynthia Spooner of Chatteris WI thanking the branch for the donation sponsoring her cycle ride in Cuba for Denham College. Reminders were given of a cheese and not wine evening on September 29 and council meeting at Whittlesey on October 24. Correspondence was also received from the Charity Commission and from Elm Church Ladies thanking the group for its entry in the flower festival. Thanks were expressed to Betty Stone and Eileen Lock for their floral expertise. Marjorie Cotterell read the annual meeting report on behalf of Jeanie Hellon. Sheila Ward provided flowers for the officers' table and birthday pens and greetings were given to Marjorie Cotterell, Eileen Lock and Sheila Ward. Jean Toms will receive her pen at the next meeting. Eileen Lock ran the meeting as president for members' night. She wrote two sketches performed by Betty Stone, Peggy Stoppard and Barbara Smart. A musical pass the parcel was played and a musical quiz and card bingo. Eileen was thanked by Barbara Smart. Points awarded for the competition 'Something Old' were: Five, Betty Stone; four, Jean Corker, Eileen Lock, Marjorie Cotterell, Peggy Stoppard, Joan Hollis and Barbara Smart. Flower of the month competition p;oints were: Five, Eileen Lock, Sheila Ward and Barbara Smart. Both competitions were supervised by Jean Corker and judged by Kathleen Sanderson. Marjorie Cotterell was pianist and in charge of newsletters. Other duties were: Raffle and convalescence coins, Peggy Stoppard; door steward, Kathleen Sanderson; tea hostess, Sheila Ward assisted by Sally Johnson, Joan Hollis and Kathleen Sanderson.
