THE July WI meeting was held in the Community Centre. President Valerie Ware welcomed everyone including Pat Williman from West Walton who brought along WI books for sale and gave details of the branch entry in to East of England Show, which was awarded 97.5 points out of a possible 120. A report on the WI Walks was given by Celia Crawshaw, who was also thanked for organising a strawberry tea in June. Birthday pens and handkerchiefs were presented to Janet Groves, Valerie Ware, Ann Balls, Carol Gore, Barbara Gray and Celia Crawshaw. Speaker was Tammy Smalley, the Wash Estuary Project Officer, who gave a talk with slides showing the history and living landscapes around the wash. To celebrate the rich and diverse heritage of the area a Wash Week is to be held from August 5-13 with activities planned from Skegness to Hunstanton. A vote of thanks was given by Linda Cragg. The monthly competition was for a book-mark. Five points were awarded to Margaret Clowes and Mollie Rollins. Flower of the month points were: Five, Phyliss Balls, Valerie Ware, Barbara Gray, Linda Cragg; four, Ann Balls, Gill Kirby, Mollie Rollins. For the social half-hour the president read a report submitted by the delegate to the annual meeting in June.
