Teenager George Eddy is tuning his vocal chords ready to sing in front of television's Mr Nasty for a place on the X-Factor.

George, 18, pictured, son of Peter and Katherine Eddy of March, made his way through the preliminary auditions by singing Louis Armstrong's classic What A Wonderful World, after entering less than 24 hours before the deadline.

A sixth form student at King's School, Ely, George said: "They told us there had been 200,000 entries from all over the country. I was really surprised to get through. I heard lots of really good people who were turned away after singing just one verse of a song."

He will perform in the second round of the competition next month in front of Simon Cowell and Sharon Osborne in a bid to win a place on the hit talent show.
